Mission Statement

The mission of the Andover College legal studies program is for you to learn how to communicate effectively, synthesize important legal concepts, and demonstrate ethical decision-making skills. Students also are expected to develop thorough and effective legal research methods to solve problems, demonstrate legal writing techniques, and apply these techniques to enhance their professional lives.

Program-Specific Outcomes

Listed below are just some of the specific outcomes of the program.

  • Assist clients: analyze data and information to assist clients throughout the legal process
  • Perform legal research: locate and analyze relevant primary and secondary legal sources in electronic and print media
  • Perform investigative functions: use investigative techniques to gather information from witnesses and other sources
  • Implement legal procedures: process legal documents and maintain legal schedules
  • Assist in pretrial preparation: draft and organize legal documents and records

The Role of Paralegals*

A paralegal's most important role is to assist lawyers in trials, hearings, and corporate meetings. While this program does not legally authorize you to practice law in any way, you will be qualified to perform many other duties such as:

  • Drafting legal documents
  • Conducting legal research
  • Drafting pleadings and motions
  • Preparing tax returns

Areas of Employment

There are many employment opportunities for those with specialized legal knowledge and skills, the same knowledge and skills that you can get from Andover College. Upon graduation, you will receive an associate of applied science degree from Andover College. This degree allows you to seek employment in a variety of places such as law firms, corporate legal departments, and public sectors.
